From Fear to Acceptance: My Self-Discovery
We all like to think we know ourselves pretty well. Our strengths, our weaknesses, our likes and dislikes. But every once in a while, something comes along that shakes us up, challenges our assumptions, and teaches us something new about who we are.
For me, that moment came during my trip to Varanasi. I thought I knew what to expect – a beautiful river, an enchanting atmosphere, and a sense of spirituality that only this city can provide. But what I didn’t expect was the profound sense of self-discovery that awaited me. As I sat on the banks of the Ganges, watching the aarti ceremony and feeling the gentle breeze on my face, I felt a sense of calm and clarity wash over me. The worries and stresses of everyday life faded away, replaced by a deep sense of purpose and connection to the divine.
But it wasn’t just the surroundings that taught me something new about myself. As I took a river safari and saw the city from a different perspective, I realized that I was capable of much more than I had given myself credit for. I could navigate through the crowds, soak in the beauty of the river, and keep myself safe in the face of adversity.
More than that, though, I realized that I was capable of being alone with my thoughts and feelings – something I had always feared and avoided. But in the quiet of the night, with the sound of the river flowing gently beside me, I found a deep sense of peace and acceptance that I had been searching for my whole life.
So yes, I learned something new about myself on that trip – something that has stayed with me ever since. I learned that I am capable of more than I ever thought possible, that I am connected to the divine and the natural world around me in ways I never realized, and that I am strong enough to face whatever challenges come my way. And for that, I will be forever grateful to the city of Varanasi and the Ganges River.
